Thank
you card from Misty Meadow Miniatures |
Due to illness in the family, Misty
Meadow Miniatures had to sell out all their horses and the farm. They were
members for a short time, but Rosemary was thoughtful enough to send us this
thank you note:
"Art & I wish to extend our
sincere gratitude to everyone who has touched our lives in so many ways these
past 8 years.
We have truly enjoyed our
brief stay in the "Wonderful World of Miniature Horses". They give so much of
themselves, in comparison for so little!
We will miss them dearly.
We wish that we were
physically able to continue doing what we love most, but at the same time, we
realize that life is full of changes that we must adapt to".
Remembering you all fondly,
Art & Rosemary

The SmallestHorse Group is made up and
governed by all of its members. If you have comments, items you want to
see discussed, programs that you are interested in getting started, please do
not hesitate to email me at
minilover@comcast.net.
We have implemented many new programs
this year. Some have gotten off to slow start, but hopefully next year we
will have more of you participating. Alice Stanley worked extremely hard
on getting our futurity program started. We need more participants for
more prize money.
Just remember "WE" are the SmallestHorse
Group. The Message Board (which consists of the different forums) belongs
to the group. All the workers on the SmallestHorse Group are volunteers
and we need to remember that and give a thank you to people like Judy who works
so hard as treasurer and Marketing Manger, Bill who has done a wonderful
job as VP and Chairman of the Welcoming committee, Dona who has kept minutes of
our meetings and been in charge of keeping the birthday list, and then Alice
Fairway for her work on futurity, Michelle for her time worked on the futurity
and the Gelding Incentive (Don't we have any 30" and under geldings?) and Robin
for keeping record of the Standard of Excellence.
I, personally want to thank the people
that visit and post on the board. There are so many "smart" people out
there with so much good information to share.
2007 has been a stressful year for
many........let's look to 2008 as a new bright year.
Thank you to Karen (AKS) for coordinating our Secret
Santa.
Thank you to all those who are participating on the forum
in the appaloosa color or is it pattern discussion. If you haven't been
reading it is truly informative and interesting.
Thank you to Dona (Kickapoo) and Judy (Zachary) for
getting quotes on SmallestHorse Group t-shirts.
Thank you to all of you who take the time to send pictures
in for the photo contest.
Thank you to all who read the magazine themes and get your
pictures to Judy in a timely fashion. She is looking for stallion
pictures.

IT'S ONLY A HORSE
From time to time, people have told
me......."lighten up, it's only a horse," or, "that's a lot of money for
only a horse".
They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs
involved for "only a horse." Some of my proudest moments have come about
with "only a horse."
Many hours have passed and my only company was "only a horse," but I did not
once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by
"only a horse," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "only a
horse" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "only a horse," then you will probably understand
phrases like "only a friend," "only a sunrise," or "only a promise."
"Only a horse" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust,
and love.
"Only a horse" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better
person. Because of "only a horse" I will rise early and look longingly to
the future.
So for me and folks like me, it's not "only a horse" but an embodiment of
all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and
the pure joy of the moment.
"Only a horse" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away
from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday you will understand that it's not "only a horse" to me,
my horses keep me from being "only a woman." -Debby |

History of the SmallestHorse Group |
There have always
been breeders who have bred for the
smallest perfect horse, but they
often felt alone in their endeavors
due to
the lack of recognition in the show ring. Not until the
internet discussions of
horses under 30” in height and the
non-compliance with AMHA rule CL-010 E, did
those who were
breeding and promoting the 30” and under horse realize that
they
were not alone in their dedication.
Through a Yahoo internet group, breeders began discussing
the needs and
challenges for the 30” and under horse. The
efforts were led by Charlotte Lupton, Teresa Palmer, Margie Wood, Suzi Brannon, Kay Baxter,
and Arlene Toback.. Through this
Yahoo group,
the Mission Statement was formed, the logo was chosen,
by-laws written and the first officers elected. In order to improve
communication among the breeders, a message board was
set up in March, 2003 and
a paid member group was formed
to promote the 30” and under horse. The charter members
are noted on the membership page. Membership
rates were
set at $25.00 per year per family.
The first officers were Charlotte Lupton (President), Size Brannon (Vice
President), Carol Albritton (secretary) and Margie Wood (treasurer). From a few original members,
the
SmallestHorse Group has continued to grow and has made it's presence known
through the website, magazine advertising,
sponsorship of AMHA World classes and
having a SHG booth
at the World show. Plans are being made to sponsor and
have a booth at the AMHR National Show.
All officers and directors of the SmallestHorse Group are
volunteers. There is no paid staff......so for the love of the
30" and under miniature horse, many people are contributing
their time and energy to promote the perfect horse in miniature.
Remember.....the
SmallestHorse Group is "your" group. Please continue to post on the forum
and feel free to offer your ideas and thoughts.
